Assoc. Prof. Andrian Tonev graduated from the Medical University – Sofia, in 1994. In 1995, he started working as a physician at the Vascular Surgery Department with the National Cardiovascular Diseases Center. From 1996 to 1999, he specialized surgery courses in Augsburg, Germany. In 2000, he acquired the specialty General Surgery, and in 2004, he graduated with the specialty of Vascular Surgery. From 1999 to 2015, he worked at the Vascular Surgery and Angiology Department with St. Ekaterina General Hospital as an Assistant and Head of Undergraduate students in Vascular Surgery and Angiology. In 2011, he completed a 200-hour course in Health Management, and subsequently in 2013, he graduated from the Faculty of Public Health with a specialty in Health Management. In 2013, he held a postgraduate qualification and received a Certificate in Ultrasonic Vascular Diagnosis. He defended his Doctoral thesis on „Choosing a method for surgical treatment of patients with lesions of the carotid artery“. Since 2014, he has been habilitated in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Medical University – Sofia. Since 1999, he has been actively involved in kidney transplantations, together with a team of urologists, being in charge for the vascular part of the surgery. From 2013 until now, he is the Head of the vascular team involved in kidney transplantations, in collaboration with Dr. Luboslav Shkvarla, Dr. Stoyan Genadiev and Dr. Salim Akram Hamude and he was honored with an Honor Certificate by the Minister of Health for his contribution to transplantation in Bulgaria. He holds a certificate of Endovascular Surgery (2015). He has numerous publications as an author and co-author in Bulgarian and foreign medical journals on topics in the field of vascular surgery.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tonev annually participates in European and world congresses on vascular surgery in France, Germany, Slovenia, as well as in the international symposium at Charrington Cross Hospital in London, UK.

Since 2015, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tonev is the Head of the Vascular Surgery Department at Uni Hospital. As of 2018, he is also the Head of the Hospital Surgery Unit.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tonev is a member of the Bulgarian Physicians Association, the Bulgarian National Association for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and Angiology, the Ethics Committee hereof, the Bulgarian Association for Thoracic, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, the Bulgarian Surgical Association, the Bulgarian Association of Phlebology; member of the editorial board of the Surgery magazine, the Bulgarian Association of Urology, an associate professor at the Urology Department of Alexandrovska Hospital. Member of the European Association for Vascular Surgery.

Fluent in German and Russian.
