A MODERN DEPARTMENT WITH EXPERIENCED SPECIALISTS

The main scope of activity of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is the implementation of specialized diagnostic and treatment care in obstetrics and gynecological aid. The Department is located on the second floor of the hospital.

The Department performs:

• Surgical interventions of abdominal access – laparotomy in various gynecological diseases – uterine myoma, ovarian cysts, neoplastic diseases of the female genital organs;
• Endoscopic gynecological surgery – laparoscopy and hysteroscopy – a preferred surgery method for infertility, ovarian neoplasms, subserosal and submucosal fibroids, endometriosis, intrauterine synechiae, endometrial polyps, etc.;
• Conization of the cervix – classical and electro-conization;
• Lower access surgeries – vaginal plastic surgery, vaginal hysterectomy, urethrovesicopexy, etc.;
• Surgeries in static gynecological diseases;
• Termination of a pregnancy – by request and due to medical indications;
• Preparation and carrying out normal and surgical (S.C.) births, as well as immediate monitoring thereafter;
• Intensive monitoring of high-risk pregnancies;
• Monitoring of pregnant women with various complications during pregnancy.

The Department consists of four sectors:

• Delivery sector
• High risk pregnancy
• Gynecological sector
• Neonatal sector.

The hospital rooms in the sectors have a private bathroom, a telephone, an Internet connection, a sound and light alarm system and a contact device with the midwife, an internal telephone for constant contact with it, variable geometry beds and panels with inlets/outlets for all medical gases, infusion pumps for dosing of medication.

• Pre-delivery room -here is the place where the woman in labor is accommodated and physicians and midwives actively monitor the delivery process. With the help of an obstetric monitor, the fetus’ heart tones are monitored during delivery, using Siemens ACUSON Freestyle’s latest ultrasound device to track the unborn baby’s condition. There is an opportunity for privacy and peaceful flow of the delivery; the father may be present, if this is what the couple wants.
• The delivery room is connectedthrough an intermediate door to the pre-delivery room where the final stage of birth takes place. There is a baby corner with the possibility of active resuscitation, newborn warming, initial cleaning, bathing, weighing and measuring.

Operating Theaters:

• Obstetric Operation Theater(for Cesarean sections). The midway door connects the delivery room and the Obstetric surgery theater thus allowing a delivery to be completed by a surgical intervention, being performed in the shortest possible time. The obstetric surgery theater has a camera attached to the operating lamp and a CCTV monitor (by STORZ) in order for the surgery to be recorded.
• Intensive Careroom where the patient stays after the surgery, allowing staff to exercise permanent visual monitoring of their condition via video surveillance. The Intensive Care room has a patient monitor, a variable geometry bed, a panel providing all medical gases, an infusion pump for medication dosing, a sound and light alarm system and a connection to the midwife’s room, an in-house phone line for constant contact with each patient.
• Gynecological Operation Theater– located in the Operation Unit on the sixth floor of the hospital. It has the state-of-the-art equipment for:
• Endoscopic gynecological surgery (laparoscopic and hysteroscopic) by STORZ, Germany
• Gynecological electrosurgery – a VIO BiClamp unit by Erbe, Germany.

The neonatal sector has seven baby beds. The sector has various in type unique equipment: B 40 neonatal monitors, five Giraffe incubators for newborns who have challenges in adaptation or those requiring more intensive care by a neonatologist, a mobile incubator, Bistos phototherapy lamps, two Hamilton C1 ventilation devices (the only ones in Bulgaria), Formula/Baby milk kitchen.

In addition, the department has a spacious room equipped with all amenities for washing and preparing the baby and the mother to be discharged.

The admission and consultation office of the Department, consisting of two spacious rooms and equipped with a Borcad gynecological chair with a Siemens video colposcope and ultrasound provides the following services:

• Prophylactic (preventive) gynecological examinations including PAP-smear, vaginal secretion for microbiological examination, colposcopy, ultrasound examinations of female genitalia and mammary glands
• Consultations for any gynecological pathology – menstrual disorders, genital bleeding, all benign and malignant neoplasms of the female genital organs, sterility
• Consultation for sexually transmitted infections
• Consultations on the use of contraceptive methods
• Consultation on the use of a vaccine for the prevention of cervical cancer.

The physicians in the Department work on a scheduled timetable at the Admission office.
