Chief Assistant Dr. Anelia Gotseva, MD was born in Sofia. He graduated in medicine in 1995 at Medical University of Sofia. He has acquired two specialties – „Infectious diseases“ (2005) and „Virusology“ (2015). Since 2009, he has a master’s degree in „Health Management“ from Medical University of Sofia. In 2020, he defended a dissertation for the acquisition of a PhD in the scientific specialty „Virusology“ on the topic „Spread of HBV, HCV and co-infections among target groups“. He initially started working in 1996 as a resident doctor in Blagoevgrad.
Since 2000, after winning a competition, he successively held the academic position of assistant, senior assistant and chief assistant in infectious diseases at the Department of Infectious Diseases, Parasitology and Tropical Medicine, Medical University of Sofia. From 2000 to 2008, he worked in the Clinic for Infectious, Parasitic and Tropical Diseases at the „St. Ivan Rilski“ Medical Center – Sofia, and from 2008-2015 he was part of the team of the SBALIPB „Prof. Iv. Kirov“ (Infectious Diseases Hospital) – Sofia, Department for the treatment of viral hepatitis and intestinal infections. In the period 2011-2012, he was a republican consultant on infectious diseases.
Since December 2015, he has been the Head of the „Virusology“ laboratory – „Uni Hospital“ Medical Center, Panagyurishte. Since January 2017, he has been an assistant and since January 2021 – chief assistant in the Virology Laboratory of the Academy of Medical Sciences – Sofia. Author and co-author of over 90 scientific publications. Winner of the „Doctor whom Bulgarians trust 2020, 2021 and 2022“ awards, honorary diploma of BLS „Fighting the COVID-19 pandemic“, honorary badge of BLS „For many years of activity in the field of health care and for high results achieved in diagnostic-therapeutic and educational-scientific activity“, was twice awarded by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Bulgaria (2020, 2021).
